The Boathouse Restaurants

The Boathouse at Breach Inlet

The original structure at the Boathouse at Breach Inlet was a ramshackle bait shop on a beautiful point overlooking the water. The transformation to its current state began with a great team including architect Reggie Gibson, general manager Sam Richardson, executive chef Jeff Lanzaro, who is now at the Boathouse on Lake Julian, master craftsman Bucky Greelish, master boatbuilder Lawrence Waring, jack-of-all-trades Will Traver, Cousins Construction Company and many others. The restaurant interior and exterior were designed to reflect an understated, beach structure, with a blend of indigenous nautical features.

The Boathouse at Breach Inlet introduced a new idea for how to offer the menu - diners could choose daily from five to six different types of fresh fish and from an equal number of preparation styles, such as tarragon butter, blackened or pesto. Additionally, we offered the choice of two of five sides, such as collards or a wonderful Boathouse invention - blue cheese coleslaw. The concept was good, and the blue cheese slaw divine. In addition to the standard Boathouse favorites, Breach Inlet has recently added an outdoor raw bar with great views of the Intracoastal Waterway.

The Boathouse on East Bay

The opening of the first Boathouse, The Boathouse at Breach Inlet, inspired another. In February 1999, a 150-year-old warehouse in downtown Charleston became home to the Boathouse on East Bay. In keeping with the more sophisticated architecture of the historic peninsula of Charleston, East Bay is a more upscale version of her island sister. Brazilian cherry, aged mahogany, teak and heart pine were selected for the restaurant's interior, mirroring some of the finest aspects of the wooden boats that once graced Charleston Harbor. The walls are dressed with captivating black and white photographs of local nautical history. Two very large paintings were commissioned, depicting the 1929 Carolina Yacht Club Regatta with Castle Pinckney in the background.

The Boathouse on East Bay offers a variety of simply fresh seafood and an array of preparations, delicious steaks and mouth-watering chef's specialties. The restaurant's spacious setting allows room for a handsome marble serpentine raw bar where delicious fresh seafood and sushi are served daily. Dine in our vast, open-air dining room or on our enclosed, climate-controlled patio.
